The Anglo-Australian Telescope Located in Coonabarabran NSW Australia
Its function is to provide world-class observing facilities for British and Australian optical astronomers. Opened in 1974 by Prince Charles, the Anglo-Australian Telescope was one of the last 4-metre equatorially mounted telescopes to be constructed. Its excellent optics, exceptional mechanical stability and precision computer control make it one of the finest telescopes in the world, The telescope itself Weighs in at 260 Tones and it's mirror weighing 860kg, the dome 560 tones.
